This practical three-part series helps caregivers understand why behaviors occur, identify common triggers, and respond with strategies that reduce distress, improve safety, and support connection.

Thursday, October 8 Part 1: Why Behavior Happens—Understanding Changes in the Brain
Dementia can affect judgment, communication, emotional regulation, perception, and the ability to cope with stress. This session explains how changes in the brain can lead to behaviors such as agitation, resistance, repetition, withdrawal, or suspicion and helps caregivers view behavior through a more compassionate, problem-solving lens.

Thursday, October 15 Part 2: The Behavior Detective—Identifying Triggers and Preventing Escalation
Behavior often has a pattern, trigger, or unmet need beneath the surface. Participants will learn how to observe what happened before, during, and after a behavior, identify possible medical, emotional, environmental, and communication-related causes, and make changes that may prevent escalation.

Thursday, October 22 Part 3: The Response Toolkit—Practical Strategies That Work
There is no single response that works in every situation, but caregivers can build a flexible set of tools. This session provides practical strategies for responding in the moment, including validation, redirection, simplifying tasks, adjusting the environment, offering choices, and knowing when to pause or seek additional help.
