Brain Health Beyond Memory: A 4-Part Series

Brain health involves much more than remembering names, dates, and appointments. This four-part series explores attention, processing speed, decision-making, adaptability, and cognitive reserve while offering practical strategies to support thinking skills throughout life.

Wednesday, October 7 Part 1: Why Brain Health Is More Than Memory
Memory is only one part of how the brain helps us function each day. This session introduces the different areas of cognition, explains how they work together, and helps participants recognize how changes in sleep, mood, health, and daily habits can affect overall cognitive performance.

Wednesday, October 14 Part 2: Attention, Processing Speed, and Decision-Making
Staying focused, taking in information, and making decisions can become more difficult when the brain is tired, stressed, distracted, or aging. Participants will learn how attention and processing speed influence everyday tasks and practice strategies for reducing cognitive overload and making thoughtful decisions.

Wednesday, October 21 Part 3: Cognitive Flexibility and Adapting to Change
Cognitive flexibility is the brain’s ability to shift perspectives, adjust plans, solve problems, and respond to new situations. This class explores why adapting to change may become more challenging and offers practical exercises and strategies for strengthening flexible thinking.

Wednesday, October 28 Part 4: Building Cognitive Reserve Across the Lifespan
Cognitive reserve refers to the brain’s ability to adapt and continue functioning despite age-related changes or disease. Participants will learn how lifelong learning, physical activity, social connection, meaningful engagement, and other health behaviors may help build and maintain cognitive resilience over time.
