Caregiver Foundations is a practical seven-part series designed to give family caregivers the knowledge, tools, and confidence to navigate dementia care. From understanding dementia and communicating effectively to managing daily life, planning ahead, handling family conflict, and caring for yourself, each session focuses on real-world skills caregivers can use throughout the journey.

Monday, November 2: Understanding Dementia
Build a strong foundation for understanding dementia, including what it is, how it affects the brain, and the different diseases that can cause it. Participants will learn common symptoms and why dementia can look different from one person to another.
Monday, November 9: What to Expect as the Disease Progresses
Dementia changes over time, and knowing what may lie ahead can help families prepare. This class explores common changes in thinking, behavior, communication, and daily functioning while offering guidance for adapting care as needs evolve.
Monday, November 16: Communication Basics: Connecting Effectively
Changes in memory, language, and processing can make communication more difficult for someone living with dementia. Learn simple techniques for improving understanding, reducing frustration, and maintaining connection as communication abilities change.
Monday, November 23: Daily Life: Routines, Activities, and Safety
Everyday routines can provide comfort, independence, and a sense of purpose for someone living with dementia. Learn how to adapt activities, structure the day, and make the home environment safer while supporting the person’s remaining abilities.
Monday, November 30: Planning Ahead: Legal, Financial, and Care Options
Early planning can help families make informed decisions before a crisis occurs. This class introduces important considerations related to legal documents, finances, future care needs, and available care options so families can begin meaningful conversations and planning.
Monday, December 7: Taking Care of You: Stress, Support, and Resources
Caregiving can affect physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, and daily life. Learn how to recognize caregiver stress, identify realistic ways to care for yourself, and connect with support and resources that can make the caregiving journey more manageable.
Monday, December 14: When You Disagree: Managing Conflict Between Family Caregivers
Families do not always agree about what is best for a loved one living with dementia. This class explores common sources of family conflict and offers practical strategies for improving communication, navigating disagreements, and keeping the person’s needs at the center of decision-making.
