Our Family Services

We served over 25,000 individuals with memory loss and family caregivers through our support groups, telephone helpline, early
memory loss programs, and family consultations.

We hosted or presented at over 500 educational seminars, classes and events, increasing knowledge, understanding and awareness of Alzheimer’s in Orange County.

Our 24/7 Telephone Helpline continues to provide vital information, resources and assistance for individuals with memory loss, caregivers, healthcare professionals and the public. More than just an in-bound call center, the Helpline initiates follow-up case management, providing ongoing proactive support and care throughout each family’s journey with the disease. Over 9,750 calls were made or answered last year.

Our New Adult Day Centers

We merged with Acacia Adult Day Services in Garden Grove.

Our two adult day centers–South County Adult Day Services in Laguna Woods, and Acacia Adult Day Services— provide supervision, structured activities and healthcare monitoring for over 200 individuals.

At South County Adult Day Services, we piloted an innovative Family Drop-Off Respite Program, giving family caregivers the ability to reserve “drop-off” hours of care as needed to run errands, take care of personal business, or take a break from the pressures of caregiving responsibilities. We also added a support group (in addition to our existing 40) and more Alzheimer’s educational training opportunities at these centers.

Our Other Mission-Related Initiatives

Our Outreach and Advocacy team provided information on diagnosis and care through more than 6,000 contacts with medical practices throughout Orange County. We expanded our e-referral partnership with Kaiser Permanente Orange County to also include MemorialCare and Monarch Health. These partnerships
proactively connect newly-diagnosed patients and their families to our support services.

In collaboration with UCI Geriatric Medicine and the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, we educated medical and nursing students, UCI and community clinic physicians and staff concerning Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care interventions and techniques.

We founded and chair the Orange County Strategic Plan for Aging, bringing together 18 OC cities, the County of Orange, 11 nonprofits and 4 regional funders to plan for the future. A first of its kind, this initiative will radically impact the lives of OC seniors in the coming years.
