This class explores the relationship between technology use, attention, memory, and cognitive health. This webinar will separate fear-based claims from current evidence, explain how digital tools can both support and disrupt cognition, and offer practical strategies for using technology intentionally to promote independence, daily functioning, and brain health.

Objectives: 1. Define “digital dementia” and distinguish between metaphorical claims about technology use and clinical dementia or neurodegenerative decline.
2. Describe current evidence regarding technology use, memory, attention, and cognitive outcomes in older adults.
3. Explain the concept of cognitive offloading and identify how digital tools can serve as external memory supports for daily functioning, independence, and caregiver support.
4. Identify person-centered technology strategies that may support communication, orientation, safety, daily routines, and independence for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.
