Alzheimer’s Orange County (AlzOC) hosted our very first Walk4ALZ of this year in Laguna Niguel Regional Park on October 14th. The 400 participants who joined hands in fight against Alzheimer’s included people affected by the disease and their friends and family, caregivers, AlzOC staff, local elected officials, and many other wonderful supporters.

Advocating for Alzheimer’s

Lucy Lisabeth, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2010, has been attending our walks since 2011. Lisabeth and her husband, Roger, came forth and shared their Alzheimer’s experience during the Walk4ALZ last Saturday. We are deeply grateful for the Lisabeths’ courage in standing in front of hundreds of people at the event and sharing their story to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s. Our message will reach farther ahead if more people affected by the disease continue to amplify their voices. Read more about the Lisabeths’ powerful testimony here.

Community Support

We raised over $40,000 from this walk alone. All of these funds go toward helping Orange County families impacted by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. These funds support services such as a telephone helpline, caregiver support groups, dementia care education, adult day care, and so much more. We are able to provide all these programs FREE of charge because of the support from the community through events like our Walk4ALZ.

Upcoming Events

We still have two more Walk4ALZ coming up this year with our next one in Huntington Beach on October 28th and our final one at the Angel Stadium on November 11th. There is no cost to register but participants can receive a walk t-shirt for a $50 donation. Our walks are also handicap accessible and pet-friendly. We are looking forward to see you there!
